How to get there:

By Plane

The airlines that fly to Paris have several airports to choose from. The most important one is the Charles De Gaulle Airport at Roissy, about 23 km away from the capital. This airport is the second largest in Europe and it is used by all major airlines. Another airport, The Paris Orly Airport , is located 14 km south of Paris , and it also welcomes a large number of airplanes mostly from European destinations. The third airport we would like to mention is the Beauvois Airport , used by some low cost airlines. Both Roissy and Orly are well connected to one another as well as with the city centre. Visitors who arrive at these airports can get to the city by train or by buses from the national airline: Air France , which offers an economical, but slow, solution.

By Train

In one of the pioneer nations of high-speed trains, it is really convenient to get to Paris by train because the train stations are centrally located and also because many lines are serviced by some of the fastest trains in Europe . The TGV (Train a Grande Vitesse) connect Paris with several national destinations as well as Belgium and Holland . For those who arrive from Great Britain , the fastest way is to use the EuroStar that connects London and Paris in only 3 hours. From the 6 train stations in Paris , the largest is the Gare Du Nord that services destinations to the north of the French capital. The Gare de Lyon is where trains from Italy and Switzerland arrive, and the Gare d'Austerliz welcomes passengers from Spain and Portugal . The entire French Railway system is managed by the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer).

By Car

The French capital is the centre of the national highway network, which makes Paris easily accessible from many places. To go to Paris from the north or the south, take the E15, from the east or west, the E 50. Other important highways that reach Paris are the E5 from the northern part of the country, and the E54 from the south.

How to Get Around:

Metro

As in many capitals, the best way to get around in Paris is the underground train. The 360 train stations that compose the Parisian underground network are packed with residents and visitors every day from 5:30AM until past midnight . The line 14 goes virtually everywhere. To this line connects the 4, which goes to the periphery of the city as well as to the famous Euro Disney.

Bateaux Mouches

Sailing up and down the Seine is undoubtedly the most fascinating way to discover Paris The famous " Bateaux Mouches" run almost the entire day and even offer enchanting evenings with dinner and music on board. The private boat companies offer convenient stops such as the Pont d'Alma and Pont Neuf stops. The public boat service is called "Bateau Bus" which runs between the Louvre and the Tour Eiffel and provides also stops at the major tourist attractions.

Bus

This is a good alternative to the metro for those who do not want to miss sightseeing even when they get around. The well-furnished daily bus service is composed by about 50 urban, and other 130 suburban, lines. There is also a convenient night service that runs from 1AM to 5AM that covers about ten lines between the Place du Chatelet and the periphery.

Tickets

It is called the " Paris - Visite" and it serves as a "passe-partout" for the public transportation network. The special card is sold at metro and train stations, bus ticket counters, tourist offices and Paris airports. Valid from 1 to 5 days and for a specific zone, the " Paris - Visite" enables its holder to use any service from the RAPT -metro, bus and trains- and it even offers discounts at selected tourist attractions.
